Despite heavy pressure from tourism and fisheries, four areas in the Vlakte van de Raan Natura 2000 area have been closed to all forms of active bottom-disturbing fishing via the Fisheries Implementation Regulations for the purpose of studying the effects of shrimp fishing and beam trawling.
